Better than paralysis...

Here comes a story based on truly mad science. Everything is possible with a simple combination of some of today's neuroscience methods.

Just reconfigure a brain pacemaker not to restart neurons by electrical shocks, but to block them with electromagnetic noise, and you can switch off a selected part of the brain.  So what if you had such a probe installed in your premotor cortex like her?

Some more info after the break:

Some more technical information:
  • The doll implant is a form of deep brain stimulation (DBS), which uses small probes implanted into the brain. DBS is nowadays used to treat movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and dystonia by applying a short pulse to reset the neurons when they start to fire chaotically.
  • But the doll implant does not fire short pulses to keep the neurons active. It's not a brain pacemaker, but quite the opposite. Its mechanism is more comparable to blocking transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which is also a known technique today. By inducing noise, the neurons around the implant lose cohesion. No signals can be processed in the blocked brain area.
  • The premotor cortex is the part of the brain where you plan your movements. Once you decide to move, it sends the order to the motor cortex. If your premotor cortex is blocked, you will not only be unable to move, but even unable to imagine to move a muscle. You would really feel inanimate. Like a sentient ragdoll. Blocking this part of the brain might be the most pure form of objectification.

    1. Of course she does. She has to tend to her body's needs. Therefore the implant has a timer and deactivates after a few hours.
And since nobody except her and the surgeon know where the button is located, nobody can keep her in dollmode indefinitely.
